I feel the earth move under my feet.......

EARTHQUAKE!!!

I felt an earthquake this morning! Here is the story--- I was blow drying my hair at 7:00 with the bathroom door open. Wigglewert was chillin' in the bathroom with me. He left the bathroom and about that time I felt the floor move. It felt like someone was walking in the hallway outside of the bathroom. At first I thought it might be Wiggles, but the floor moved too much so I ruled that out. Then I turned off the blow dryer and said "Robert?!?!?" thinking that he was the one that walked by and made the floor move. (Now would be a good time to tell you that one of my biggest fears is being attacked while I'm blow drying my hair. If someone really wanted to get you it would be the perfect opportunity because you can't hear anything and you are probably not expecting it). When I heard Rob snoring I really freaked out. I shut the bathroom door and contemplated waking him up and making him check the house for intruders. After finishing my hair I decided to be brave. I finished getting ready without waking Robert and went to school.
After I got home from parent-teacher conferences the earthquake was all over the news! It happened at 7:02. It was a 3.3 and apparently they are not a big deal unless they are 4 or more, but it was still pretty cool to survive my first earthquake.

23 days people.

Road Trip

This past weekend I went to visit Jessica in Waco because my K-State Wildcats were playing her Baylor Bears. It was great to see Jessica and be in Waco, but I will let her talk about the whole football game.

This week is Homecoming week at K-State. I didn't do anything with Homecoming last year, but now that I am Greek I have to participate. I performed in Pant the Chant tonight. Pant the Chant is a stomp and chant routine. We did a really good job and if we place, then it gives us a good chance of doing well in Homecoming. If I find a video performance of Pant the Chant, I will post it.

I am really excited for my Thanksgiving break because it is from Nov 19-28! It is so long and will include two K-State basketball games, with one game possibly being a matchup between #3 KSU and #1 Duke! It will be so fun!

I am on two volleyball teams. I formed my Co-Ed volleyball team, Spiketacular, again from last year. We went 2-3 last year and missed the playoffs. This year we have only asked the best players back and made our team smaller. Our opponent didn't show up to our first game so we are 1-0 and only need 1 more win to make the playoffs. We look really good though. My other team is Delta Sig's house volleyball team. I don't know how good we will be, but our first game is tomorrow!

That is a small update from my world.

Look familiar?

I went to Huntsville to visit Courtney, and we ended up in the Woodlands. Look what we found...

They added weird palm tree shrubs to the front of the walk.

Our weekend full of labor

This labor day weekend Robert and I did some house stuff. Here are some before and after pictures of our entry way (we don't have the baseboard done yet):

Well... shit.

Part of my job on Mondays is to upload interesting videos to the video page of the station's Website.

Today the weatherman came in to tell me that "Poop cake" video was accidentally on the Weather page.

It was probably the best conversation I've had at the news station so far and the highlight of my career.

I'd explain more, but I think it's better this way.

(Note the title "Weather Video" above the vid.)

This is funny

So a guy in my fraternity shared this video with me on Facebook. Instead of making you go to Facebook to view the video, I thought I would share it here. I think it is super funny and I thought you all would like it too!

I waited all summer for this...?

My life the past two-ish weeks:

So, Aug. 10 (about 2 p.m.) I get an e-mail about a Part Time Web Producer position opening at KCEN HD News. I decide to apply. Thirty minutes later, the News Director callas me and has an initial phone interview. He then asks me to come in to the station for an official interview at 4 p.m. I go and chat with him for about 15 minutes. The next day, he offers me a job as a part time Web Producer.

Meanwhile, my friend Nikki calls and asks me if I want to look at apartments. Having just gotten a job, I decide that I will live with her and say "yes!" On Aug. 12, we look at apartments and find one we love. On Aug. 13 we move in.

Meanwhile, I had agreed to build a football program for a local Catholic high school. Friday, I was working with the head lady on the program and gathering all the materials I would need in order to complete it this weekend. She makes a joke about how she hopes I don't have a social life or a boyfriend since I'm gonna be spending my whole weekend on the program. I tell her no, I don't have a boyfriend and she says she will set me up. After asking for my criteria, she opens an old football program and points to one of the assistant coaches. He was pretty cute. I say yes, hook me up with that one. She said she'll introduce us at one of the games. I'm praying she wasn't just saying that because I would really like to talk to a boy... It's been awhile. (I use the word "talk" loosely).

Meanwhile, Aug. 16 I began training for my job. I trained that Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The next Monday was my first day on the job on my own. Late in the afternoon my boss calls me in to see if I've heard about the weekend News Producer position that is open. I say no, and he asks if I'd be interested. "Of course," I say. So, I shadow a night producer that Wednesday and resume work on Friday as usual. Today, he calls me in and HIRES ME FULL TIME!! I will be the weekend News Producer (working 1:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.) and then work 3 9-hour shifts during the week doing other random things. They are going to begin looking for my replacement for the Web Producer position. I will get a SALARY and BENEFITS!! WHAT?! I have never even taken a broadcasting class before... hahaha. Basically, I am writing everything the anchors say, in addition to some stories, organizing the line up of the show and making sure everyone stays within their allotted time. It's gonna be so cool!!!

Meanwhile, my car completely died. Engine fried. And I had to get a new one. But I found a car that is the exact same model (one year older) but with some extra features (moonroof and 6-disc changer), half the miles, they sold it to us for way cheap and it's blue! And now that I have my new job, I can start paying it off!!

Crazy how you spend 5 months trying to figure things out and they all fall together in a mere three weeks.

(Also, sorry I'm posting this on the blog and didn't call most of you about these epic events).

Random Reynolds

Here are some updates:

School: The title of this post refers to the new nickname my students have given me because I randomly break out into song. I'm teaching 2 blocks of Intro and 1 block of Pottery this quarter. All of my classes are pretty good. I have a freshmen homeroom. Freshmen are weird.

Volleyball: Volleyball is good. Varsity's first game is Friday, Reserves is next Tuesday. One of the girls on varsity had to get her appendix removed on Friday. She was telling us about it on Saturday and said that the doctor had to put a ballon up her butt to do some kind of test. After she told us this another volleyball player said, "I didn't know your appendix was in your butt hole?!"

House: I'm currently in the process of painting all of the trim white. It sucks a lot! I've got the guest room all done but am lacking the motivation to start the office. I have a feeling this is going to be a pretty long process.

Bodies: Yesterday Robert, my co-worker Stacey and I went to Omaha to see the Bodies Exhibit. It was pretty cool/creepy/interesting/scary/gross/thought provoking. There was one body set up to look like he was throwing a baseball. He was left handed but was stepping with his left foot. I feel like if you take a year to strip down a body for an exhibit like that you could take a few minutes to google "left handed pitcher" and make sure the form is right. At the end of the exhibit there was a gift shop. There was a lady working in the gift shop and was talking to a group of people. She asked them how many bones were in a woman's body. When they didn't know she said, "the same amount as a man's body." Robert looked at her and said (wearing shorts), "how many bones are in my body?" The lady looked at him, paused for a second and awkwardly said, "zero" then changed the subject. It was pretty funny.

Deal of the century!!: For a while now I've been stalking this duvet cover from Anthropology. It was originally over $300. I found it on ebay for $160. I almost bought it on Friday night but decided to wait because there was still a few days left before the bidding was over. Yesterday after Bodies we went shopping a bit and decided to stop by Anthropology. In the clearance bin I found the exact duvet cover I had been stalking in the exact size that I needed!!!! And the best part..... it was only $69.99!!! I'm so excited!!!!

Shooting: About 10 minutes after we left the mall there was a shooting there. I guess a shoplifter ran over a cop in the parking lot and then the shoplifter got shot or something like that. Kinda crazy!

Wedding: Only 104 days until the wedding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summer in One Post

So since I suck at giving timely posts, I am giving you my whole summer post at one time. I will do bullet points and expand on exciting things.
  • I finished my semester and I have good enough grades to go back. The bad thing is my English teacher refused to move my 89.4% to an A. I was so mad at her. She will get an evil eye if I see her on campus this semester.
  • I was an intern at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Wichita. I had a great time. It was very similar to my volunteer work with them in High School, but I had more say in what happened. I really enjoy helping with youth groups, I may try to find one to help out with in Manhattan.
  • I turned 20, which means nothing. It wasn't too depressing.
  • I threw an InDIPendence day party for the 4th of July. People brought different types of dip. Dip parties rock. Everyone loved it.
  • I went to camp for a week. It was AWESOME, literally it was called Camp Awesome. It actually turned out awesome. Plus my awesome team won Camp Champs. Which means over 4 years I have gotten 2nd place 3 years and 1st place one year. A pretty good average in my opinion.
  • I went to Branson. Branson is weird. I visited Brad, my best friend that I met at K-State. He worked at Kanakuk. Kanakuk isn't weird. It is in Branson, which makes it a little sketch.
  • My friends and I jumped on a trampoline for 24 hours. It was awesome. One person was jumping at all times for 24 hours. We randomly had the idea and decided to run with it. The only negative was the 110 degree heat. It was pretty bad. One of the biggest accomplishments of my life though. I even got a t-shirt!!!
Lastly, I went to Manhattan to work on my room. We had to renovate our house to meet fire code. Our first floor rooms used to be double level rooms but they didn't meet fire code, so we had to make them look good for being so small. I have picture of the before and after. SEE BELOW.

Pantry love

Our Easter weekend project is finally done! It only took 3 months longer than what we expected, but the results are awesome! My favorite house project so far!

Here it is before, it was basically a bedroom closet in the middle of the kitchen--

After tearing down half of it. You may remember my post about our scary moment when we moved the last stud--

Here it is dry walled--

ALL DONE!!!--

We can fit so much stuff in it! I still have plenty of room in the pantry and all of my lower cabinets are empty. Bring on the wedding presents!!---

GaGa oooh LaLa

This conversation seriously just happened:

Dad: Lady Gaga is in town, why aren't we going to that?
Me: Yeah, I think it was last night.
Dad: She's here two nights.
Me: Oh.
Dad saying something about asking mom if she wants to go. Mom saying yes, if we can find tickets for under $100.
Me: I'm surprised you know who Lady GaGa is.
Dad: She was a featured artist on Glee, wasn't she? If she's on Glee, we know who she is.

Our parents are soooo cool.

William Jewell College, Baker University, Johnson County Community College

I start teaching a new 6 week session next Monday. I'm teaching two classes this time. One I've already taught. The other one is brand new for me and called Accounting Information Systems. Prepping for this class is taking a lot of time but I'll be ready.

I still think some day I want to quit corporate life and teach full-time at a college. I would think someone would hire a guy with a CPA, MBA and 20 some years of experience and strong leadership skills. If I just had contacts at a college in the Kansas City area that I could talk to about opportunities. I wonder how I can get the word out.

Enrique Iglesias

After realizing after my last post that typing certain words in my blog trigger google alerts, (oh hey William Jewell College admission staff,) I have decided it will be exciting to title each post something different to bring new crowds to our blog. Enter Enrique.

I just finished a week long vacay and man does it suck to go back to work. I spent the week basking in the cool air in my home, (after 3 weeks without,) getting ready for my roommate to move in and hanging out with friends. Since it was also my birthday week, I set a personal goal to try to make it the whole week without paying for a meal. I am proud to say that other than a dinner on Friday I succeeded.

Marilyn moved in this weekend too, and we are having a great time getting organized and trying to make our animals get along. So far, they don't like each other much, but we are confident with time they will become BFFs.

The house is really coming along too! Marilyn has a cute smaller dinning room table that we put in place of the old one and thanks to my sweet sister Jessica I bought a cute new chair at Peir One. She also got me some awesome magnets... you will have to come to my house to see them... and be over 18 years old.

Pics of the house soon to come! We still have some boxes to unpack!

You don't want to know what they did to me today. It was wrong.

funny blog for HGTV lovers

It is written by the lady in the Sonic commercials. She takes pictures from home decor websites and makes comments about what is going on in the picture. Here is an example:

No one could ignore the obvious racism of Elaine’s side table arrangement.

Birthday

I am no longer a teenager. I freaked out about this for about 6 months so when it actually happened, I wasn't too upset. It was a good day.

Today is Father's Day. Happy Father's Day dad.

In future news, next year Father's Day will fall on June 19th. This means that my 21st birthday and Father's Day are the same day. I feel like this will only make for a fantastic family get together/party. Just an idea. Maybe Megan and Sara should start planning...

Hair Cut

I cut Tramps hair today! He was so good about it. He just sat in the tub and let me shave him. He got a little uneasy when I got around his butt hole, but hey... who doesn't? Here are some pictures:

French Fries and William Jewell College

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbBSimp84KA

Watch the above link. You may be thinking, "Man. That campus in this commercial is the most beautiful campus I have ever seen in my entire life. That must be the best school in the entire world as it is used in a national McDonalds campaign. I wish I would have been cool enough to go to that school."

Let me clarify a few things, now that you have seen the most amazing commercial ever.

1) THAT IS WILLIAM JEWELL COLLEGE!!!!!!
2) You are not allowed to park on the bricks in front of Semple (they edited some sorority letters in, but its Semple, where I lived Junior year.) That guy is breaking the rules by doing that. Security will ticket you.
3) You cant get to the top of that building by cute stairs... you have to go to the top floor girls restroom and climb through a window.
4) There are no Latino people at William Jewell College.

NEW FLOOR!!!

We got our new laminate wood floor installed this weekend!!! Here are some pictures:

After the carpet was ripped out--

Tramp was pretty mellow about the whole thing--

Wigglewert was a little too curious and had to spend most of the weekend locked in the office--

ALL DONE!! --

Can you spot the cats??

It looks so good and we (mostly me) are so excited!!! Now all we (I) need to do is attach the baseboards, paint the trim, finish the office, re-do both bathrooms, paint the kitchen cabinets, install a new backsplash and counter, buy/make and hang up curtains, decorate the master bedroom and finish the pantry (almost done)! I better stop watching HGTV and start working!

A Half -Century Old

My half-century celebration has begun! We had a wonderful dinner Thursday night with friends - The Fritze's, The Huelskamp's, The Smith's, The Doering's (our adopted family - adults only), and The Meares (Beth works with me) - at Jose Peppers. Nothing embarrassing just a good time.

Today I received some beautiful flowers - a surprise! See picture. Thank you!!! And then dad and I went shopping for items for our new entry table. (Also see picture) We also had a mirror, but when we went to uncover the corner things we found part of it was broken. So we're on a mirror search again. Dad got to experience Hobby Lobby, Gordmans, Pier One, and Bed Bath and Beyond but no luck yet.

Okay, so I haven't figured out how to put the pictures where I want them yet. But at least I'm now posting something :)

Wedding jewelry? What do you think? Which one(s) do you like the best?

Stay tuned family.... There are some major changes happening to the (soon to be) Danner house. I will post pictures soon!!

Out with the old... In with the new

Yesterday I moved into my new house and chopped off all my hair! Pictures:
