Paul Jarvis

The man mentioned above is Sara's future lover. He is one of my favorite people in the world and they would get along so well.

I was recently named to the position of Student Opportunity Award Chairman. This means that I will be chairing the committee that reviews the applications of students who need money that is raised during the K-State Proud campaign. I have told you all about the campaign before, but now I have direct contact with the people who receive those awards. It is the coolest opportunity I have ever had.

I was asked to give a student profile a while back for the K-State website. They recently posted the new profiles on the website. Click here to view my profile!!!

Life is great! I have been given a lot of awesome opportunities here at K-State and I couldn't be happier!

Look up Paul Jarvis on Facebook. Sara and he will fall in love in a week or so.

Exciting 3 days for the parents

Being the good husband that I am, I bought your mom a new lawnmower Saturday morning. And I captured the special moment of her first trip around the yard....

Saturday night, we went to the James Taylor concert. Along with everyone in Wichita over the age of 50 and one 4 year old. Guess where she sat? Even with her kicking the back of our seats through the first half of the show, it was a great evening and here is a pic from our seats.

You'll have to take my word for it. That is James Taylor and the seats were awesome.

And then tonight, the biggest event of them all. Mom received the Golden Apple award for being the best teacher at her school. That makes 3 Apples won for teaching excellence in our household. I have zero. You do the math.

Love,
Dad

Update from the bathroom

23 years old and severe weather still frightens me.

Last night, storms ripped across the Central Texas area. Our weatherman kept interrupting Biggest Loser to bring updates--I immediately become scared. So, knowing how mom is able to fix everything, I give her a call and ask her what to do. (Insert the story about me telling grandpa he should call mom to tell us where the car is in the parking lot). She tells me the proper precautions to take...
Meanwhile, my roommate Nikki had just gotten done eating at a Mexican restaurant. They make these margaritas that are ridiculously strong and incredibly good. Having just had two 'ritas, tipsy Nikki returns home and as the sirens sounded, we stockpiled ourselves in the bathroom.

As you can see, I'm scared and she's tipsy.
The good thing about having tipsy Nikki in the room is she made it more funny than frightening. In fact, I believe after this photo was taken she said "It's a good thing we're in here, I may throw up." She was also brave enough to leave the bathroom to ensure we had all the essentials: flashlights, candles, lighter, pizza, cake, DDP and Vodka. Boy were we prepared.
We had also turned the tv up very loud to hear updates. Our meteorologist said that putting football or bike helmets on your children was a good idea to keep their heads safe. I remembered that I had my bike helmet inside, so... I kept myself safe.

Still terrified, and she's still tipsy.
We stayed in the bathroom for probably 30 minutes.
There was no tornado.

And I would like to conclude by saying that just because I'm from Kansas does NOT mean that I'm immune from tornadoes. People kept telling me I had no reason to worry because I'm from Kansas. All the more reason to be scared, I say. I've seen what tornadoes do. And they scare me. The end.

Easter with Megan and Robert

About a month ago Robert sent me a message on Facebook asking if I would be interested in coming to David City for Easter. I agreed and immediately was excited to surprise Megan when I showed up on her doorstep.

Fast forward a month

I left Manhattan and headed north. The Kansas part of the drive is great because it is the Flint Hills, and I am a sucker for the Flint Hills. Once I entered Nebraska, the only thing that willed me to go on was knowing I was going to see Megan, Robert, Tramp, and Wigglewert. After that painful drive I pulled up to Megan and Robert's house, but was called over to talk to their crazy neighbor. After realizing that you literally can't communicate with him I left and went to the door. Megan saw me through the window and freaked out. I successfully surprised here (high five to Robert). After the grand tour of the gorgeous home, Megan and I waited for Robert to come home.

Friday night, we all went to the thriving metropolis of Columbus Nebraska. I saw her school and we ate at a place that looks like it was modeled after the 70's. Columbus is pretty great!

Saturday we went to Lincoln and returned stuff/shopped. It was thrilling! We also went to the movie Arthur. I came in with low expectations and wasn't disappointed. Then we came home and watched a movie. Overall a great day!

Sunday I woke up to Megan cooking breakfast. It was delicious! Then she surprised Robert and I with hidden easter baskets! Mine had mac and cheese, dove chocolate, and a 2 liter of diet dr. pepper. It was great! She found some good hiding spots for next year...

Overall, I had a great time in Nebraska. No crazy stories, just a great time with part of the family!

The DIY Network

This morning I turned on the DIY network and we watched it all day. It got us inspired to start up some house stuff again. Luckily we had a few small projects that we could finish in an afternoon.

The first project was to hang our new chandelier. After a year of looking for chandeliers online and not knowing what I wanted, I actually found one at Menards! I had seen it before and liked it but wasn't sure if it was what I wanted, but yesterday I decided to give it a shot---- mainly because it was about half the price of most of the chandeliers I liked online.

After hanging and admiring our amazing new light we wanted to do more! We decided to hang the shelves we got in November when we went up to Minnesota and took a trip to Ikea. Originally, we were going to put the shelves up in the office but I changed my mind and we hung them on the wall next to the kitchen table. Now I need to get more picture frames--- but for now I put up every frame I could find in the house so I could see what it's going to look like.

Here are the pics:

I need to get some bigger picture frames to fill in the space. I'm going to stick with white, black and silver frames. I'm also really excited to be able to display the wedding mirrors. The only thing left to do in this room is get/make curtains for the sliding door, base boards, paint the last 2 chairs and get the table painted black!

On to another subject, I sent Robert to the store today to get oreos and he didn't buy double stuffed? What the hell? Who doesn't buy double stuffed? Who is this guy I married?

Internet Stalking

Hello Family! I got the interweb this week! hooray!

Story time....

I was on a date a few days ago and we started talking about facebook. I admitted that I had facebook stalked him the day before and told him that I expected that he did the same. He told me that he had not looked me up on facebook, but he did google me and found a "very interesting family blog." He went on to tell me that I do not post enough and that it seems my sister is really into fixing up her house. I found this hilarious, and started to tell him the story of how outsiders have been reading the blog because of email alerts that get sent when you type key words like William Jewell College... his response? "Yeah, I know. You blogged about that."

Internet dating just isn't what it used to be...

Pics of the apartment to come... eventually. Or you can just come visit me...St Louis is awesome.

Im getting another cat. Don't tell Stella, she's going to flip out.
